Word Reference
You may NOT use online translators in class. If you don't understand the grammar of what you're trying to say, you need to simplify what you're saying (think kindergarten, not 10th grade) or ask for help. I will consider excessive (noticeable) use of a translator to be plagiarism and your assignment may receive a ZERO in addition to receiving a parent phone call and disciplinary referral. (See Malinda Kathleen Reese's "Translator Fails" channel on YouTube if you need examples of how/why translators DON'T WORK.)
BUT, you MAY use a dictionary. Luckily for us, there is a FANTASTIC one on the web, and they have a free app, too! When we start conjugating verbs late in level 1, all through level 2, and especially for those of you taking level 3 this is a resource you absolutely must have.
Go to www.wordreference.com or look it up in the app store.

Quizlet
Quizlet used to be THE app for my class! Unfortunately a lot of their features now require a paid account. 😔 You can still access all of the flashcards that I have made over the years, and we will still ocassionally use Quizlet Live in class.
Quizlet is basically an online set of flashcards, with bonuses! ALL of the Spanish 1-3 vocabulary is already loaded and separated by level, unit, and topic, from all of my years teaching.
You can go to www.quizlet.com/srafantasma or download the app and search for "srafantasma" to find my lists. (Quizlet still thinks that I'm teaching at Olympic HS in Charlotte, NC... but don't let that throw you off, it really is me!)
Duolingo
Duolingo is a third party language learning app. Unlike Quizlet, it does NOT follow the order of our curriculum. BUT it does teach many of the same topics, has better graphics, and will anazlyze your speaking!!
You'll have to create a free account, but you can friend your classmates and challenge each other! Add me "Srafantasma" www.duolingo.com

Mango Languages
Mango languages is an excellent option for students who need more lesson-based learning than they get from Duolingo. Unfortunately, I have no way to monitor students progress as a group, so if they are using it for remediation or need help with an activity, they will have to show it to me after school.
The app is free to download for Android and Apple devices, and if you create your log-in via a local library system (or connect your library account) access to the lessons are free!!
Check your local library for instructions on how to get a free library card!

Auténtico is a new app for iOS devices. I have a Droid so I haven't checked it out, but if you are looking for another practice resource, it's available here from the iTunes store
Study Spanish is a good (but boring) resource for grammar assistance. There are plenty of free quizzes, so you do NOT have to pay for use of the website.
Spanish Games.net - I discovered this and it seems like a cute site for more vocab and grammar games
Free Rice.com
Ok, this isn't really an app... but you can practice your Spanish vocabulary AND help donate food to the World Food Programme to help end world hunger!
Go to Freerice.com and change the subject to Spanish! (Or study vocabulary from any other subject that you want!) |
Conjuguemos
As far as I know, Conjuguemos does not have an app.
However, Conjuguemos has a lot of tutorials and games for practice.
There is no class log in. We don't have accounts for this site. BUT, you can use the website as a guest, or simply click "Verbs" under Spanish language and access some great verb conjugation practice, along with some simple tutorials.
